Allstar Strawberry (Fragaria) is a fruit-producing machine. The strawberry hybrid produces high yields of large, juicy red fruit in early to mid-summer. Strawberries also are attractive plants in a garden or container, with showy white flowers with yellow centers that appear before the fruit forms. Even better, Allstar is a perennial in zones 4 through 9, so it will remain partly green through winter and come back in spring to bear fruit again. Allstar Strawberry is called a June Bearer variety, because the fruit matures in a few weeks. The plant is bred to resist diseases common to strawberries such as verticillium wilt. Allstar Strawberry Care Choose a sunny spot in the garden or for a container. Place the plant in well-draining soil so the crown is just above the soil level. If growing several strawberry plants, space them about 6 to 18 inches apart. Plant your strawberry as soon as the soil is workable in spring to give the plant time to establish before summer arrives. The strawberries will send out runners as days lengthen; cut those off in the first year of plant growth to send more energy to producing fruit. Growing Allstar Strawberry Plants Allstar Strawberry plants grow quickly and produce large berries in their first year, assuming they get the sun, nutrients and water they need. The best soil is fertile, with plenty of organic matter, moist, and drains well. The pants reach about 8 to 10 inches tall and 18 inches wide, and fill with berries all around the plant. These June bearing strawberries also grow well in a container. Even though Allstar Strawberry is a small plant, it needs space, so avoid crowding the plants in a container. Snip off runners and water more often but with less water than used for those grown in the ground. Watering Allstar Strawberries Water Allstar Strawberries regularly, at least weekly, depending on the weather. The plants need moisture to fully form plump and juicy berries, so add a layer of mulch around the plants to slow evaporation. Feeding Allstar Strawberries Add plenty of compost or aged manure to the growing area to keep strawberries healthy. Avoid fertilizing until after spring, or the extra energy will go into leaf and stem growth instead of fruiting.Allstar Strawberry Plant Information Common Name: Allstar StrawberryBotanical Name: Fragaria ananassaPlant Type: Strawberry – June BearingEdible Type: FruitFruit Size: 1-2 inchesLight Exposure: Full Sun (+6 hrs.)Spacing: 18
