Originating in South America, this Heliotrope demonstrates moderate drought tolerance once roots are established. Many gardeners note its deer resistance and general resistance to pests. Water regularly during the first few weeks, then adjust to a moderate schedule once the plant anchors itself, although some extra moisture during prolonged heat helps maintain its appearance. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every few weeks supports continued growth.  Deadheading spent flower clusters prolongs the display, though heavy pruning is seldom required.
