Bensonhurst Purple Fig

For a notable yield of delicious brown-purple figs, try the Bensonhurst Purple Fig. Growing up to 15 feet tall, the Bensonhurst Purple Fig is an impressive specimen and produces attractive and deeply lobed green foliage. Its small to medium-sized, sweet-tasting figs begin to mature from the end of summer into the fall. Bensonhurst Purple Fig Care  To encourage the fruits to ripen, the Bensonhurst Purple Fig should be grown in a sheltered spot in full sun. For best performance, plant Bensonhurst in the spring or fall, and select a site with free-draining but moisture-retentive soil. It is hardy in zones 6 to 9. Annual pruning will help control its vigorous growth and encourage a good crop.Bensonhurst Purple Fig Plant Young fig trees can establish and produce a decent crop within 2 to 3 years of planting. As a sun-loving species, the Bensonhurst Purple Fig thrives when it is given six plus hours of sun per day.  Even though its size will be restricted, the Bensonhurst Purple Fig is suitable for growing in a container. Repotting to support its growth is recommended every 2 – 3 years. Watering Bensonhurst Purple Fig Plant Watering deeply and regularly throughout the spring and summer will encourage the fruits to swell. Container-grown specimens will require more frequent irrigation to prevent the soil from drying out over the summer months. Feeding Bensonhurst Purple Fig Plant Fertilizing with a balanced general-purpose feed will help support the plant’s growth and fruiting. Apply as directed in the spring as new growth appears.
