Rose Harlow Carr® is an exceptional rose bred for a special event. This shrub features gorgeous, fully double, pink flowers that retain all of the heady perfume of an old English rose while blooming non-stop like a modern hybrid. The Harlow Carr® Rose was bred to commemorate the 200th birthday of the Royal Horticultural Society in Britain and is named after a demonstration garden in North East England. Rosa ‘Harlow Carr’ is a dependable, long-blooming shrub that produces flowers all of the way to the ground. rThe heavenly, spicy, old-world fragrance of Harlow Carr® makes this rose best planted near a walkway, under a bedroom window, or near outdoor seating areas. Harlow Carr® is fully resistant to black spot. The mass of flowers that tumble over Harlow Carr® bloom from June to September and entice native bees and other beneficial pollinators to visit your garden. Although deer browsing can be a problem in wooded areas, Harlow Carr® rebounds quickly from random deer pruning, producing more foliage and flower buds to fill in empty spots. rHarlow Carr® English Rose CarerPlant Harlow Carr® in a location with well-draining soil that is also moisture retentive. Amend any heavy soil with organic compost so that it drains well, and mulch annually with shredded leaves, arborist chips, or more compost. rKeeping roses well watered is important for a good flower display. Adding drip irrigation or soaker hoses at the time of planting will make future watering easier and more efficient. Allow for 1 inch of water a week during the growing season, taking into account natural precipitation. rAll English shrub roses require regular fertilizing. Apply a granular feed for roses early in the spring as the new foliage is emerging and then again when the flower buds begin to form. These two feedings will be plenty to support healthy growth until the shrubs go dormant in the fall. rShrub roses require minimal pruning to maintain a dense and pleasing shape. Prune in late winter to remove spent canes from the previous season and any winter damage. Cut dead, diagonal, or diseased canes all of the way to a main branch or all of the way to the ground for the oldest canes. Remove spent flowers as needed. Follow the bloom stem all of the way back to a pair of leaves and make a clean cut just above them. This will help to keep the overall shape of the shrub compact. When cutting stems for arranging, make your cuts as you would when deadheading.rHarlow Carr® English Rose SpacingrThe rounded shrub shape of Harlow Carr® tops out at 4 feet tall and wide, making it a great choice for smaller garden areas or even growing in a planter. Space shrubs 40 inches apart to create a dense hedge or mass planting. Potted roses will require a container with at least a 20-inch diameter and a heavy or wide bottom for stability.
