Kodiak Fresh™ Diervilla

Kodiak Fresh Diervilla, also known as bush honeysuckle, is a fast-growing perennial shrub that features dazzling foliage. New foliage is orange and red and, once mature, fades into a shade of chartreuse that provides vivid fall color. This easy-care plant also boasts yellow flowers that bloom all summer long. Kodiak Fresh Diervilla is cold-hardy and is a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.Use Diervilla in mass plantings like hedges, foundation walls, and gardens. The blooms also make excellent cut flowers. This deciduous plant is native to North America, so it is drought tolerant once acclimated. Bush honeysuckle is known to attract pollinators, like hummingbirds and butterflies.Kodiak® Fresh™ Diervilla CareWater newly planted Diervilla when the soil is dry, and established plants will only need water during a dry spell. Use well-draining, alkaline soil. Plant in part sun, so the shrub will receive at least 4 hours of sunlight per day. Diervilla is shade tolerant, but the foliage will be more colorful and lively, and the plant will produce more flowers with some sun.Diervilla blooms on new wood, so prune in the spring; otherwise, this plant needs little regular pruning. Give the plant a rejuvenating trim every 3 to 5 years to promote more abundant growth and blooms. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.Kodiak® Fresh™ Diervilla SpacingBush honeysuckle will reach 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. When used in a mass planting, the shrubs should be placed about 3 feet apart so each plant has enough room while creating the effect of consistent greenery. The shrub should be placed about 4 feet away from buildings and other plants if you want to create a more open landscape.Kodiak Fresh™ Diervilla InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 3 – 7Plant Type: BushesLight Exposure: Full Shade to Full Sun (Can Grow In Most Sunlight Conditions)Mature Height: 2 – 3 FeetMature Spread: 2 – 3 FeetSpacing: 2 – 3 FeetHabit: MoundedFlower Color(s): YellowFlower Description: Bloom Period: SummerFoliage Type: DeciduousFoliage Color(s): Green, YellowFoliage Description: Lime GreenSeasonal Interest: Summer Flowering, Fall FloweringWatering: AverageResists: DeerTolerates: DroughtAttracts: Bees, Butterflies, HummingbirdsContainer Role: ThrillerUses: Borders, Containers, Mass Planting, Wildlife GardensFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Foliage Interest, Low Maintenance, Native to North AmericaBrand: Proven WinnersCommon Name: Kodiak Fresh™ DiervillaOther Name(s): Scientific Name: Diervilla x ‘SMNDSS’ USPPAF, Can PBRAF
