Maianthemum japonicum

(Syn: Smilacina japonica) Maianthemum japonicum is a little-known but very garden worthy false Solomon’s seal that hails from 3,000′-6,000′ elevations in China, Korea, Russia, and, of course, Japan. For us, Maianthemum japonicum forms a compact 15″ tall deciduous clump that emerges in early spring and is adorned with frothy terminal inflorescences of tiny white flowers…a nice addition to the spring woodland garden.
