Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper

The colorful fruits and contrasting dark foliage of the Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper certainly makes for a stunning combination. Grown for its ornamental rather than culinary properties, the Capsicum annuum ‘Midnight Fire’ produces black leaves, which helps the purple-red fruits really stand out. With a height of around 1 foot, it is ideal for a container both indoors and outdoors. rOver the summer, the Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper forms multiple branches and a neat-mounded habit. Being heat tolerant, it is no surprise that it is a sun lover and can cope with dry spells. Its compact growth is ideal for growing in a container, but it could also be grown at the front of a border either as a specimen or with others. rMidnight Fire Ornamental Pepper CarerFor the best foliage and fruit color, the Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper wants as much sunshine as it can get. It prefers a rich and fertile soil that has good drainage. Apply water to the base of the plant, allowing the soil to dry out in between waterings. Fertilizing with a potassium-rich feed once flowering has begun will help support fruiting. Pruning is not usually required, but branches can be lightly pinched for a fuller appearance. rAs a tender plant, the Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper will not tolerate any frost and should not be planted out until all risk of frost has passed. You can also grow it as an attractive houseplant on a sunny windowsill. rMidnight Fire Ornamental Pepper SpacingrThe Midnight Fire Ornamental Pepper grows to around 9 to 12 inches high and 14 to 16 inches across. A spacing of 12 to 14 inches is recommended when growing multiple specimens. rMidnight Fire Ornamental Pepper InformationrrrrUSDA Hardiness Zones: 10 – 11rrrPlant Type: AnnualsrrrLight Exposure: Full Sun (At Least 6 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)rrrMature Height: 9 – 12 InchesrrrMature Spread: 14 – 16 InchesrrrSpacing: 12 – 14 InchesrrrHabit: MoundedrrrFlower Color(s): NonerrrFlower Description: rrrBloom Period: Summer through FallrrrFoliage Type: HerbaceousrrrFoliage Color(s): BlackrrrFoliage Description: Dark BlackrrrSeasonal Interest: Summer Flowering, Fall FloweringrrrWatering: AveragerrrResists: N/ArrrTolerates: N/ArrrAttracts: N/ArrrContainer Role: FillerrrrUses: Borders, Containers, Edging, Mass PlantingrrrFeatures: Foliage Interest, Low MaintenancerrrBrand: rrrCommon Name: Midnight Fire Ornamental PepperrrrOther Name(s): Christmas PepperrrrScientific Name: Capsicum annuum ‘Midnight Fire’
