Raindrop Peperomia is a plant that grows on the jungle floor and prefers cool, damp conditions. The large, heart-shaped leaves of Raindrop Peperomia are often confused with the flat, round leaves of the Chinese Money Plant. Both plants have similar growth and care needs, but they are scientifically classified as different plants. Peperomia polybotrya is also commonly called a Coin Plant or Coin-leaf Peperomia.Best Locations For Growing Raindrop PeperomiaTropical plants thrive in humid areas of the house, such as bathrooms or kitchens. These rooms also tend to have lower light levels that Peperomia does not mind. The compact size of the Raindrop Peperomia makes it easy to grow on a shelf or desktop where it can be appreciated close up. Raindrop Peperomia Sunlight RequirementsRaindrop Peperomia performs well in a container placed in an east- or west-facing window. The dark-green foliage will stay deep green with lower light levels, but bright indirect light will encourage flowering in the summer. Even though the flowers are small and unremarkable, they signal that the plant is growing in the right conditions.Raindrop Peperomia CarePinching out old or dying stems is an excellent way to keep this plant compact and tidy. New growth will appear from the base quickly. Regular dusting with a damp cloth will shine the leaves and keep the air pores open. Watering Raindrop PeperomiaAll Peperomias store extra moisture in their stems and leaves, making them more drought tolerant than other tropicals. This also makes them more likely to be overwatered and suffer from root rot. To prevent overwatering, allow the top 2-3 inches of soil to dry between waterings, and discard any standing water in a saucer or cache pot. These plants need high humidity levels above 50%. Use a portable humidifier or set the pot on a tray filled with 2-3 inches of pebbles and water. Try misting your plant with distilled water for added humidity. Do not use tap water, which contains salts and minerals that leave marks on the leaves.Feeding Raindrop PeperomiaFertilizing is only needed during the active growth period of spring and summer. Once a month, apply a balanced liquid feed. Choose a 1-1-2 or 10-10-10 ratio of NPK and dilute the formula to half the manufacturer’s suggested amount. Peperomias slow their growth in the winter and do not require extra fertilizing.Raindrop Peperomia InformationLight Exposure: Bright Indirect Light, Medium LightCare Requirements: EasyWatering Requirements: Average – When the top 2 inches of the soil dries out.Pet Friendly: YesKid Friendly: YesAir Purifier: ModerateHabit: UprightGrowth Rate: SlowMature Height: 12-15 inchesMature Spread: 12-15 inchesFlowering: YesFlower Color(s): WhiteFlower Shade/Description: WhiteFragrant: YesFoliage Type: Foliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: GreenTemperature: 65° – 80°F (18° – 27°C)Humidity: Above Average to High (60% – 100%)Common Name: Raindrop PeperomiaOther Name(s): Raindrop Plant, Coin Plant, Coin-Leaf PeperomiaScientific Name: Peperomia polybotryaPlant Type: House Plant
