Scout Maiden Grass

The Scout Maiden Grass is perfect for adding movement and structure to any garden. Also known as Miscanthus sinensis Scout™, this ornamental grass is great for adding some height as it can grow to around 6 feet tall. Its tall and slender blades sway in the gentlest of breezes and appear fresh green with a white midrib in summer; the color fades to yellow-beige as the season progresses. In late summer, fluffy pink-beige blooms develop, ready to dance on top of the foliage. With its upright form, the Scout Maiden Grass is an erect and structural grass. As part of the WorryFree® Non-invasive Collection, this Miscanthus is infertile and will not self-seed and take over. Being clump forming, Scout Maiden is ideally suited for dotting around a border or growing in a drift. The Scout Maiden Grass can also be grown in a large container to place on a patio or deck.Scout Maiden Grass CareThe Scout Maiden Grass performs best when grown in full sun, but can tolerate some light shade if necessary. It prefers a free-draining soil that is kept moist. For its root system to develop, this grass needs to be watered frequently after planting and for the first season at least. However, once established, it will tolerate some dry periods. When grown in fertile soil, the Scout Maiden Grass rarely requires extra fertilization. Before its new growth appears, simply cut back the foliage to 3-6 inches high in late winter or early spring. For extra protection, any container-grown plants can be moved to shelter from the worst of the winter weather. Scout Maiden Grass SpacingWhen mature, the Scout Maiden Grass can grow to around 5-6 feet tall by 2-3 feet wide. When growing this Miscanthus in a group or drift, it can be planted about 30 inches apart.Scout Maiden Grass InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 5 – 10Plant Type: PerennialLight Exposure: Partial Shade to Full Sun (At Least 3 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 5 – 6 FeetMature Spread: 2 – 3 FeetSpacing: 2 – 3 FeetHabit: UprightFlower Color(s): Pink, WhiteFlower Description: Pink To BeigeBloom Period: SummerFoliage Type: HerbaceousFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Seasonal Interest: Summer Flowering, Fall InterestWatering: LowResists: DeerTolerates: DroughtAttracts: BirdsContainer Role: Uses: Borders, Specimen or Focal PointFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Cut Flowers, Foliage InterestBrand: WF, HPFYCommon Name: Scout Maiden GrassOther Name(s): Scout Maiden GrassScientific Name: Miscanthus sinensis Scout™
